Youthful skin has been a major topic in beauty culture for thousands of years. People have found different methods for acne and wrinkle free skin. History on these methods have been seen in cultures such as China, Thailand, and America. Silk cocoons originated in Thailand when a Chinese Empress discovered it and it became a secret for many years. In Thailand many people pay to get professionally slapped in the face to avoid wrinkles. In America we see many different facials that can go to great extents just to get the preferred clear skin. Over the years beauty culture has made youthful skin a major part of what it is to be considered beautiful.

 

Silk cocoon facial products in China have dated back since 2640 B.C when Empress Sin-Ling-Chi discovered the beautiful silk that comes from the cocoon. Silk cocoons were used over 2,000 years ago by the Chinese. At first the royal family of China had kept the secret of silk cocoons and would only be sold to the rulers in the west without revealing what is was. If someone shared what this secret source was the penalty was as far as to facing death. Many theories of where these cocoons came from were formed and people made theories such as silk coming from colored petals from a Chinese desert. The introduction of silk in the new world began when two poor monks found the secret of silk after traveling to China. They brought back eggs and shoots year later after Emperor Justinian of Constantinople ordered them to. The secret spread throughout Europe as Constantinople was a crossroads city and the trip that the monks took became known as the Silk Road. Silk cocoons are still used to this day and promotes anti-aging and the reduction of blemishes. Products that advertise young skin have been promoted for years.

 

Thai slapping is another method used for tighter and younger looking skin. This method has said to be around for only about 100 years when a woman taught people about skin slapping. This method was taught to only 10 people as it was also a secret for most of its time. Tata New Series World explains how her grandmother was one of these 10 people. She also says how she doesn’t know who the other people that were taught are and that her and her husband,Marwin, are the only ones outside of Thailand that know this technique. This technique is known to tighten the skin and shrink pores. Tightening the skin helps get rid of wrinkles which reduces signs of aging. When the skin is slapped different levels of slaps are performed and it varies from pats to smacks. Many different ways of reducing aging and fine lines have been found for years and people are willing to pay to get slapped in the face as younger skin is the prefered beauty.

 

In America, facials for clear skin are highly advertised. Around the 1800s, the desire for youthful skin began. Beauty products and treatments such as facials began to increase. Different facials began to promote many benefits such as acne free skin, anti-aging, acne scar removal, etc. Clear and youthful skin is very promoted in American beauty culture as it is portrayed in various modern day magazines and on social media. People go to extents of paying to get their skin chemically peeled or bleached. Acne facials are very common. People go to get facials in hopes of clearing their skin and shrinking pores. Healthy looking skin is largely promoted in American beauty culture and many Americans spend thousands of dollars to achieve this skin.

Ways to achieve this skin such as silk cocoons, Thai slapping, and facials have been advertised for years and grown popular the more people have began to focus on the idea that having clear youthful skin is what you need to be considered beautiful.
